Life Simplified

Life Simplified

8:00 AM

First of all, and again, wishing you all a Happy New Year. As stated before, I don't do resolutions but this whole month of January I decided to share little tips and tricks to simplify your life a little for this New year. Some to organise your home, some to maintain your sanity, little things I have implemented in my home over the years and could work for you (or not, I never promised a one size fits all). This mini series is called "Life Simplified" and will last only this whole month, month during which I will post as much as possible, at the default of guaranteeing a post a day.

Now the first step into simplifying your life is to have a good way to plan your days, and stationary shops the world over are making a nice profit of the sale of calendars and diaries. I've done both, I even tried having a nice and cute Calendar app on my phone last year, but I am the old fashioned type, for me nothing but the good old one page a month calendar will do, and it has to be the one with the little squares I can write in too. Some years I got lucky to get one of these free, or as a gift from a family member, heck I bought some too in the past. They all delivered and helped me stay very organised; a thing I now need even more with a school age child. Last year I got one from my dad, but my kitchen has no hook or nail and I ended up taping it to the wall, it was fine, but writing new events on it month after months wasn't comfortable as I could not remove it from the wall and write on it on a flat horizontal surface. This year I am going the free cute printable route, you will find many of these running a google search. And because I did it in the past nag know how much of a pain it is to write against a wall, this year I did tape a transparent page protector to my kitchen door, slipped the page for the current month in, and each time I'll need to add something all that will be needed is to remove the page from its plastic cover, write on it and put it back, then put the one for the next month in when time comes for it...easy easy.

So here is my very simple way to have my month planning done and always in sight...what is yours? are you a wall calendar type? Or a conventional diary? Or are you more comfortable with the latest in technology and have an app on your phone, tablet or computer?

I'm the smartphone types -- I mark it on Google Calendar and it notifies me via. SMS and app alert.

The problem with using smartphones is that the calendar -- as a whole -- isn't in front of you all the time: I rarely visit the app to check my itinerary for the rest of the month; sometimes the alerts just pop-in out of nowhere.

This is where the old-fashioned calendar's beat technology -- you can hang them on your closet door or the wall where you can see it all the time!

    Happy new year!

  4. I tried the google calendar in the past, never worked for me, I forget to check the app daily and reminders are not precise enough. For me the good old calendar in my kitchen cannot be replaced by technology. Maybe the cuter generation will have a better hang at it.

I agree - I love the wall calendar with the squares to fill in! I tried the iPhone apps but I just couldn't do it! I like the visual of the wall calendar ;)

  7. Yeah my iPad has a calendar, I'm not even going to try it, the one on my Android phone was not working for me at all, there is no reason why this one should. :)
